DFA'd Go Woo-Seok, 'Impossible' to Return to LG Once He's DFA'd
"I'll give it a year."
"Is (Woo-seok) coming?" LG Twins manager Yoon Kyung-yeop asked a club staffer before speaking to reporters before the first game of the weekend's three-game series against the Doosan Bears in the 2024 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.
Go made his way to Major League Baseball (MLB) via the posting system after winning the Korean Series title as LG's closer last season. He signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the San Diego Padres. The contract has a mutual option that can be exercised for 2+1 years up to $9.4 million.
But he never made it to the big leagues. Go had an up-and-down season in major league exhibition games. He returned to Korea in March to play against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 Major League Baseball World Tour Seoul Series at Gocheok Sky Dome, but was left off the 26-man roster and only played in a special match against LG.
After failing to make the roster, Go made his way to Double-A. In 10 games, he went 2-2 with one loss, one hold, and one save, with a 4.38 ERA, 12.1 innings pitched, four walks, 15 strikeouts, and a 1.46 WHIP (walks allowed per inning pitched). After his uneven performance at Double-A, the Padres made a decision. The four-for-one trade with the Miami Marlins to acquire Araes included Goh.
After failing to make it to the big leagues in San Diego, he was sent to Miami. In seven games at Triple-A, he went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 3.00 K/9, 3 BB/9, and a 1.22 WHIP. In his 토토사이트 last start on May 25, he pitched two innings of one-hit ball to earn the win.
However, he was eventually designated for assignment (DFA). Miami decided to sign Shawn Anderson from the Texas Rangers and removed him from the 40-man roster. According to Craig Mish of Miami Herald Sports, Go's short stint in Miami was over. He has been designated for assignment (DFA)."
He will have to wait a week to receive an offer from another team to continue his big league career. If another team signs him, he can switch teams and continue his quest for the big leagues. If no team reaches out to him, he can choose to remain in the minors or become a free agent.
If he stays with Miami's minor league team, his existing $4.5 million salary will be guaranteed, but if he becomes a free agent, his contract will be terminated. The problem is that even if Go Woo-seok becomes a free agent, he won't be able to register for the KBO. Even if he wants to return to LG, he won't be able to until next year.
"I'm going to try to experience it. I'll give myself a year. I'll try it as a minor leaguer. If I do well in the second half, I don't know. It's important to do well first. The fastball should basically average 150 to 151 kilometers."
